Describe your ideal self-care ritual.

My ideal self-care ritual generates from a sense of calmness. When I am calm, I am healthy, so everything I do that relates to self-care stems out of a desire to remain calm. I start the day with hot water, lemon and ginger. Ideally the ginger has been brewing overnight so it has a kick and depth to it. This allows me to feel connected to the earth from the moment I wake up. I like to have this before my coffee and will take my probiotic with it. I try to fast until 2 pm in the afternoon  on a good day. I do this for my cognitive function and overall clarity. I like to stick to calming music as I get ready in the morning—what I listen to depends entirely on my mood. Sometimes it will be the news on BBC.

On a good day, whenever possible, I will try to drink pure celery juice. Then I will head to an early morning Pilates or yoga class. I try to eat a ketogenic diet –– I do this again for my cognitive function. I do have days and even weeks when I’m off the diet because otherwise I’d be a bore. I do not eat meat in the U.S. — only fish. And I try to keep sugar low and on a good day will eat barely any at all; including fruit. I eat a lot of nut butter and Maca to help with sugar cravings.

"I try to stay as true to myself as much as possible and go towards things that feel right and where the energy feels good."

If things don’t feel good, I try to listen to that. I don’t drink alcohol and try to have only one coffee a day. I carry crystals like Rhodonite and rose quartz in my handbag at all times. And on a bad day, I will carry a grounding stone like Obsidian in my pocket.

I try to be of service when I feel like shit and try to remember that it’s important to take things outside of oneself when you least feel like doing so. If I feel crazy I try to go for a walk, or walk around the supermarket....this has always been my thing. I use a CBD-rich cannabis extract.

What are your favorite supplements, herbs and healthy products?

I use old fashioned bitters to aid digestion when needed. I take a shot of flax oil morning and evening and will use magnesium citrate once a fortnight or when needed to cleanse my gut. I try to use aloe vera (preferably fresh) when my skin and stomach act up. I also go through stages of using chlorophyll.

"I take herbs for my hormones and they are mixed for me by my acupuncturist in New York. He’s 87 years old and I’m secretly in love with him."

What are some of your favorite healthy foods?

  • I like making a huge rustic vegetarian English-style roast with parsnips, shallots, beats, sweet potatoes, thyme, garlic, spring onions, turnips, new potatoes, rosemary, hemp seeds and pine nuts
  • Maca lattes with almond milk
  • My ginger brew which I call “The elixir of life”
  • Celery juice
  • Tapioca crepes filled with vegetables
  • Cooked fennel
  • Steamed kale tops (the flowering tops of overwintered kale)
  • Dark chocolate

What is one piece of advice you wish you could tell your younger self?

Be yourself, authenticity is power. And everything is going to be okay.

"CBD makes me feel like I’m whole again. As though I was Humpty Dumpty and someone put me back together."

What does "self-love" mean to you?

Not despising myself. Trying to be easier and kinder when I talk to myself. Doing calming things for myself. Listening to what feels right and where the energy feels nourishing.

You're a DJ. Can you describe in music how CBD makes you feel?

Editor's note: interview conducted on December 3, 2018 and edited for length and clarity.
